Addison Lee wins National Business Award for Innovation
Innovation continues with launch of new iPhone App
London, November 11 – Addison Lee (www.addisonlee.com), London’s premium minicab company, was named as the winner of the IMechE Business Innovation of the Year Award at last night’s National Business Awards.
Addison Lee was awarded Business Innovation of the Year in recognition of its unique auto allocation software that provides real-time management of the company’s fleet of over 2,200 vehicles. This technology has helped Addison Lee to become Europe’s largest minicab provider.
Liam Griffin, MD Addison Lee, said; “Our willingness to embrace new technology has played a large part in the recent growth and success of Addison Lee. The auto allocator technology has not only helped us improve customer service and cut costs, but has also enabled us to become a more environmentally responsible business.
“This award, along with the recent awards from London Green500, TfL and the Energy Savings Trust, really shows that Addison Lee is one of London’s brightest and most innovative companies.”
Following the award, Addison Lee also announced the launch of its latest innovation; a new iPhone application that allows account customers to book minicabs at the touch of a button. The Addison Lee App uses the iPhone’s GPS capabilities to automatically locate the customer and send a minicab to pick them up.
Peter Ingram, IT Director for Addison Lee, said; “Our web and mobile booking systems have proved a big success with customers, so creating an iPhone App is the logical next step. The iPhone’s GPS capability lets us auto-locate customers instantly – it’s the digital equivalent of hailing a cab.”
Account customers can find the Addison Lee iPhone App by searching the Apple App Store for ‘Addison Lee’.

Addison Lee was the only one of the 190 member companies of the Green500 to achieve the highest ‘Diamond’ status, in recognition of the company’s success in reducing its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by over 17 per cent since 2002. Addison Lee was also given a special ‘Leader’ award in recognition of its outstanding performance in reducing its environmental impact.
The Green500 programme is funded by the London Development Agency to help deliver Mayor Boris Johnson’s target to cut London’s emissions by 60 per cent by 2025, to create green collar jobs and stimulate a low carbon economy. It recognizes organisations that have reduced CO2 emissions against set criteria. Diamond status is reserved for those leading the way and scoring at the top in each criterion.
Addison Lee founder and Chairman John Griffin said, “This recognition from Green500 is the latest in a long line of awards that Addison Lee has won for our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. Helping to protect the environment is a real concern for our 10,000 corporate clients, so we’re very pleased to be able to demonstrate the success of our environmental programme to all of our customers.”

By allocating work more efficiently we’ve cut emissions and continued to improve on the great customer service we are famous for. These awards are testament to this successful, practical strategy.”

This latest deal brings to 1,600 the total Ford Galaxy seven seaters operated by the company. Passengers' positive response to the 600 Ford Galaxy models purchased by Addison Lee last year encouraged the company to order more of the flexible Multi Purpose Vehicles (MPVs).
Addison Lee is adding more 2.0-litre TDCi Ford Galaxys to its 2,500-strong fleet. All vehicles are black and delivered with equipment including two-way radios which also enable vehicle tracking. Dagenham Motors' Edgware Road outlet in London is again supplying Addison Lee's latest order. The Ford Galaxy Edge six-speed autos, returning over 38mpg while emitting 196g CO2/km, are purchased outright and cover around 100,000 miles over two and a half years.
