The Fleet Safety Forum
The Fleet Safety Forum strives to stop deaths and injuries and roads involving vehicles being driven for work purposes.
The aim of the Forum is to provide subscribers with the most up to date practitioner and academic advice on managing road risk effectively to prevent crashes. They do this through a range of services and information provision from Brake's research team, and by bringing together anyone who is in a position to improve the safety of journeys by road for work purposes or to and from work.

The London Green500
Addison Lee is the only company to have achieved Diamond status in the London Green500 twice. This is in recognition of ‘historic and ongoing progress towards reducing carbon emissions’. Addison Lee was the only company to attain Diamond status in 2009, and we also received the award in 2010. Both awards were presented to Addison Lee by London Mayor Boris Johnson. The London Green500 is a pioneering carbon mentoring scheme, which aims to recognise London organisations taking action to reduce their CO2 emissions. The scheme is designed to help reach the Mayor’s target of a 60% reduction in emissions in London by 2025. Addison Lee was also awarded the Green500 Leader Award for ‘highest performance in achieving carbon reductions in London’. To learn more about the London Green500, please click here.
The Green500 action plan helped to identify areas where the company could significantly reduce its carbon emissions. Some of the actions are identified here:
- Undertaking an Energy Saving Trust 'green fleet review'
- Developing a robust system for monitoring fuel consumption and benchmarking performance
- Investigating opportunities for new-to-market technologies, including bio-fuels
- Senior management and board members taking an active role in carbon management
- Developing and publishing an environmental commitment document
- Monitoring energy consumption in energy intensive activities, including ICT
- Implementing a staff awareness campaign through internal publications
- Communicating environmental commitment through corporate PR
- Implementing a ‘green procurement strategy’
- Server ‘virtualisation’
- Configuring IT equipment to switch off automatically
- Ensuring that heating and air conditioning operate around building occupancy
- Double glazing the first floor/entire building
The Energy Saving Trust / Motorvate
Addison Lee is aware of its environmental responsibilities. In 2008 Addison Lee invited the Energy Saving Trust to undertake an emissions review of our fleet and operations which resulted in us becoming the first private hire fleet in London to be awarded the Green Fleet Review certificate.
We continue to work closely with the Energy Saving Trust. In 2010 we became a certified member of Motorvate (the first private hire operator to do so). The scheme involves independent analysis and monitoring of our emissions data which will then be used as a baseline for future emissions reductions.
What is Motorvate?
Supported by the Department for Transport and managed by the Energy Saving Trust, Motorvate is a certified scheme designed for organisations committed to ongoing carbon reduction. It provides access to specialist advice, annual auditing and verification of vehicle emissions, plus opportunities to share information and best practice with other organisations.
Start UK
Established by HRH The Prince of Wales, Start is a new initiative from The Prince's Charities that aims to show 'what a sustainable future could look like' and to demonstrate the simple steps we can all take to make better use of our natural resources. Addison Lee is proud to be one of the founding partners of Start along with ASDA, B&Q, BT, EDF Energy, M&S, Virgin Money and Waitrose.
The initiative recognises that a sustainable future is most likely to be achieved 'when sustainability produces tangible business benefits.'
The initiative encourages individuals to train or re-skill for ‘green’ careers as well as encouraging employers to think about sustainability in the workplace, Corporate Responsibility and employee volunteering programmes.

Shift Into Sports
In London up to 60% of an adult’s time is spent at work. Shift into Sports is a campaign aimed at encouraging shift workers to use the sporting facilities in their local area by offering significant discounts at local gyms, swimming pools, football clubs and more.
Shift has been set up by the Fitness Industry Association, the Mayor of London, Sport England and Addison Lee. It is operated by Shift into Sports Limited, and all of the money that raised is reinvested to ‘get more people, more active, more often’ through the Health and Fitness Foundation, the FIA’s Charitable Body.
