Addison Lee brings babies into the workplace
In a new TV documentary, Addison Lee, Europe’s largest minicab and chauffeur business, has trialled the revolutionary Babies in the Office scheme that allows employees who would otherwise be on maternity leave to bring their babies into the workplace - not in a crèche or a nursery, but right next to them at their desks.
The scheme, which has been successfully implemented in the US, is the focus of a new BBC2 show that will air on 16th - 17th July at 7pm. The compelling documentary explores the benefits Babies in the Office brings to both Addison Lee’s business and its staff.
The initiative has already received the support of the US Secretary of Health and over 170 companies have now adopted it in the US, with mums and dads bringing in over 2,000 babies to date. Following the success of the initial trial that was intended purely as a social experiment for the BBC documentary, Addison Lee has now formally instituted the policy in their London offices.
Liam Griffin, Managing Director of Addison Lee hopes the success of the scheme in the US will continue to be replicated in the UK. He comments ‘Addison Lee has a reputation for innovation in technology and we’re applying the same attitude to this ground breaking workplace experiment. As a family-owned business were excited at the chance to participate in this project to create a better work / life balance for our employees.
Liam continues: The scheme has a number of significant benefits for both our staff and the business, from increased staff loyalty and retention through to elevated morale resulting in improved productivity.’
