Green500 names Addison Lee London’s Leading Green Company
Addison Lee, London’s premium minicab company, was named the first ever winner of a Green500 Diamond Award for leadership in achieving carbon reduction.
Addison Lee was the only one of the 190 member companies of the Green500 to achieve the highest ‘Diamond’ status, in recognition of the company’s success in reducing its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by over 17 per cent since 2002. Addison Lee was also given a special ‘Leader’ award in recognition of its outstanding performance in reducing its environmental impact.
The Green500 programme is funded by the London Development Agency to help deliver Mayor Boris Johnson’s target to cut London’s emissions by 60 per cent by 2025, to create green collar jobs and stimulate a low carbon economy. It recognizes organisations that have reduced CO2 emissions against set criteria. Diamond status is reserved for those leading the way and scoring at the top in each criterion.
Addison Lee founder and Chairman John Griffin said, “This recognition from Green500 is the latest in a long line of awards that Addison Lee has won for our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. Helping to protect the environment is a real concern for our 10,000 corporate clients, so we’re very pleased to be able to demonstrate the success of our environmental programme to all of our customers.”
The Green500 award is the latest of several awards for Addison Lee’s hugely successful strategy to reduce its environmental impact. Recently, Addison Lee has been awarded:
- Winner: The TfL Enterprise Award for Innovation in Sustainable Transport and Travel
- Winner: ‘Best Large Fleet’ Energy Saving Trust Fleet Heroes awards
- Winner: BP’s ‘Fuel Efficient Car and Van Fleet 2009’
Lee Wickens, Environmental Manager for Addison Lee added, “As a transport company we’re never going to be the world’s greenest business but we’ve made a commitment right across the company to reduce our carbon footprint, most importantly with our fleet, which accounts for 99% of our CO2. By allocating work more efficiently we’ve cut emissions and continued to improve on the great customer service we are famous for. These awards are testament to this successful, practical strategy and also send out a strong message to other London companies that paying lip service to green issues is not enough.”
