Tower Bridge Closure
Tower bridge is closed to all traffic until Friday 30th December whilst essential maintenance work is being conducted.
The road closures will be in effect from the 1 October 2016 and will finish by 30 December 2016. The maintenance work is due to take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The closure of Tower Bridge will increase pressure on the adjacent river crossings –London Bridge, Southwark Bridge and the Blackwall Tunnel, as a result journey times in the adjacent postcodes will increase. Please see the map below outlining the affected areas.
While the impact will vary at different periods of the day, we know that rush hour will be the most affected time (07:00 -09:00, 1630 – 1900 and 2200 – 2359).
During these periods we recommend you allow extra time for time sensitive journeys especially journeys to airports or stations and would advise you to pre-book in advance where possible.
We will be monitoring the response time data and the effect the road closures has on our services for the duration of the works. This will allow us to evaluate the impact and make the necessary adjustments to our allocation system, we will communicate any changes we feel are necessary .
Our contact centre team will also be advising any travellers in the affected areas aware to allow extra time and we will also have notifications on our smartphone applications and web booker that journeys times may be impacted.
